been a busy working girl gettin’ filthy in ybor, but first a quickie in atlantic city

The past month or so has been  extremely therapeutic. I am happier and probably healthier than I have been in a while.  As if my last post wasn’t any indication of how crazy my life was becoming…  But yes things are looking up.  I began daylighting as the multi-media designer for Promo Only.  I like it – it’s good to have a day gig, especially one that keeps me plugged into the music industry.  Since I began working for Promo Only I have no complaints and actually it’s been pretty dope – especially the quick trip to Atlantic City for DJ Expo.  I helped work the convention booth and attended the nightly parties.  Our official party was held at the House Of Blues – MC’d by Clinton Sparks with performances by Sean Paul, Breathe Carolina, Taylor Dayne, Speakers, Shannon, Kat Graham, Nire AllDai, and Julissa Veloz, to name a few.  I had the pleasure of meeting Julissa Veloz and Clinton Sparks and both of them were extremely kind as well as talented.

In other news, I’ve become a regular at Czar in Tampa every Friday night for the Filthy Richard Party.   Picture Friday/Saturday nights at BackBooth + TakeOvr on Tuesdays at Roxy then add music videos and some digital mapping and now you have a Filthy Party.  It also doesn’t hurt that the DJ I’m stalking there is pretty hot, and he doesn’t seem to mind my presence in the booth one bit.  I think secretly he calls me his ‘little party starter’ and I also think he’s in love with me whether or not he knows it yet… but that’s not for here.

If you ever grace the good city of Tampa with your presence over a weekend, I think you should make Filthy Richard part of your “Must do’s”.  Here are the top 5 things you should experience in the Tampa area in order.

FRIDAY

  • Eat a SANDWICH at The Bricks in Ybor (They are all super yum)
  • Dance your ass off in any of the 3 rooms at Czar during Friday night’s Filthy Party

SATURDAY

  • Eat at DATZ – make sure you order at least one pancake (pumpkin if available)
  • Walk around the touristy area near the bay  and share a couple of Alcoholic Slurpees at Wet Willies – no Wet Willies is not unique but you might as well do something touristy and stupid.  Besides it’s a nice view.

SUNDAY

  • “Grow some” and attend Skinny-Dip Sunday at Caliente Resort in Land-O-Lakes (it’s a clothing optional day, so you won’t be required to bare-it-all, but hey if YOLO is still a thing why not embrace it? In any case it’s good music, good food, and awesome people watching.

the last 6 months in bullet points… and yes blondes definitely have more FUN.

so.  I really dropped the ball on this blog.  Which makes me feel pretty crap.  And in order to feel better about myself, I’m going to do something I should’ve done months ago.  Yep – I’m reinstating Daley Downtown.  I know you all were on the edge of your seat awaiting for this post.  Le sigh.  In all honesty I’m excited about blogging again.  I even updated my ‘theme’ and header (long over due).  In any case as much as I’d love to get you up to speed on my life in detail, I’m just going to give you a few highlights and you can fill in the rest with your overactive imaginations – you know who you are.  :\

Since my last post in December 2011 I…

  • became a blonde which automatically makes me more fun.
  • fell in and out of “Love / Like” several times.  story of my life.
  • attended WMC 2012 in Miami met a ton of amazing people including Dev, Rita Ora, Datsik and various other major players in the Industry.
  • got kissed on the cheek by Mickey Avalon (still not sure how I feel about it)
  • opened for YACT at Plaza Live, and got walked in on while putting on nylons backstage, by a member of Onuinu (who will remain unidentified, but there are only 2 of them so you have 50% chance of guessing right)  (nuff said).
  • collaborated with several EDM producers as a Featured Artist on a couple of tracks
that were released in JUNE on Beatport and SoundCloud

  • wrote several songs that are still in the works and have yet to be released.
  • wrote a song titled, “Hi (A Song For You)”  a couple days ago… you can watch my live home recording on youtube.
  • overhauled my website:  http://brittdaley.com
  • and started moonlighting SOLO as a DJ combining LIVE Vocals with DJ set – Playing my first official set at Ignition at Firestone Live 6/28/12 (Mainstage Baby)

bing. bam. boom.  I’m done – no wait I’m not done yet….  wha ha ha. 😉

Lot’s of things in the works, up in the air…

hitting 2012 with some extra special goodies

The 2nd half of 2011 was pretty incredible.  I  had the privilege of opening for Surfer Blood, VHS Or Beta, Kevin Barnes from Of Montreal, Awesome New Republic, Grand Buffet and shared the stage with dozens of other noteworthy local acts including Circus, Telethon, Andy Matchett and The Minks, Stockholm, Yogurt Smoothness, and more recently The Tenant and Ancient Sun (All worth checking out).

In November, I hopped on a cheap Southwest flight to L.A. for another Taxi Road Rally (Songwriting Convention) where I met more amazing artists and industry people – and caught up with the friends I made last year.    That conference is seriously worth every penny of my membership –  and once again it came up at a time when I needed a short break from “The City Beautiful”.

This past Monday night I released  my FIRST OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO for my single, “One And Only” –  just after releasing my 7 song Self-Titled EP on November 25 – Black Friday.  I am really proud of both.  But of course without trying to sound cliché, I absolutely could not have done it on my own.  The EP took months to write and re-write as well as multiple studio sessions to get it just right (Huge thank you to Greg Shields and Mike Stebe at Sound Lounge Studios).

The music video, to quote the Director, truly was ” a labor of love”.  The 13 hour shoot involved over 30 people.  The cast was full of local talents: Andy Matchett, Katie Peters (Circus), John Didonna, Jennifer Bonner, Jessica Mariko (DRIP), Kyle Raker, Nick Corcoran, Darci Ricciardi, and Will “Mainswitch” Campbell.

We had an incredible camera team including a volunteer crew of 8 from Full Sail University.  Most everyone involved in the project donated their time and really believed in it – which nearly brought me to tears at the end of the shoot, that and I was exhausted.  Of course we went over budget but the end result was worth it, and luckily The Orlando Repertory Theatre was more than gracious to allow us to practically take over the entire building that Sunday at no additional charge.

I am so thankful to all of my actors who brought so much life to this video and to my crew for working their asses off to keep things moving forward.  And I’m especially thankful to Director/Editor Scott Wilkins, and Richard Dine – Director of Photography, for making this video look beautiful.

If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out here.  I promise it will make you smile.
This last month of the year – I have no plans to slow down – I open for Le BLORR on December 22 in Vero Beach and I end 2011 at the Downtown Melbourne New Year’s Eve Street Party!

This past year was pretty damn good, so naturally 2012 is going to be UNREAL.

‘spreading the love’… then stomping on it: music is easier.

I had an amazing time at WMC!  The weather was perfect – and the networking was tight.  The highlights are as follows: 1. Attending the 26th Annual International Dance Music Awards (IDMAs)  – DEV & The Cataracts Performed (best bit for sure). 2. Sneaking in a sushi date with my sis.  3. Catching up with my college professor/adviser, Rey Sanchez during the Remixing Panel. 4. Meeting Robin S. vocalist behind the 90’s tune “You’ve got to show me love”. 5. And of course taking in that beautiful South Florida sunny sunshine … with SPF 50 of course.  😉

My BackBooth gig was also amazing because, despite it being a Tuesday night show, the turnout was pretty, pretty good.  HUGE THANK YOU to all of you who came out to support!  Additionally Jacuzzihidive was a ‘fantasmagasmic’ opener with great energy and catchy tunes.  Check them out http://www.jacuzzihidive.com – your ears will thank you.

Yea last week was pretty good.  Things have been pretty good overall, my new EP project is moving along nicely – all songs are in the production phase, Dog Powered Robot rehearsals are well under way with a highly entertaining script, I finished writing the extended version of the DPR theme song, I ‘spread love’ by passing out positive affirmations at the Winter Park Art Festival, had a super cool Sunday FUNday attempting to ride a motorized skateboard and to top it all off I’m surrounded by people who love me.

One would think, “That sounds GREAT Britt, Lucky girl, go get ‘em!”  Well maybe not exactly that – but something along those lines… right?  Well then, WTF is my problem?  What on Earth is making me act like such a brat… complete ‘A-hole’ to the people who care about me the most?  Is it because I think I can, and simply get away with it? Maybe I don’t want to let anyone in or  get to close to me? That’s right, stay where you are, at an arm’s length please… so I can be comfortable.

As I type this I am realizing how tragic and horrible that sounds.  Especially regarding my behavior last night, which was not cute and quite repulsive at best.  I’m not going to go into the awful details because they don’t deserve to be memorialized on the World Wide Web

But I will say this…

Out of a list of lame excuses, (none of them good enough to stand alone) including fear, insecure feelings, and self-sabotaging strategies, I managed to hurt someone I care about.  This person has put a lot on the line emotionally and has been completely open and vulnerable with me.  And here I am stomping out the chance of having something that is truly meaningful and real.

I honestly don’t know if that person will read this, I don’t know what’s going to happen.  I don’t know if I am even ready for this, and judging by my episode last night I would say, I most certainly am not.  But then again, are we ever truly ready when lovely, unexpected, people sneak up on us?

If you are reading this, I am so sorry, and sorry doesn’t even begin to cut it. You don’t deserve this kind of treatment, and honestly you deserve so much more… more than I am giving.   I certainly don’t have it together, and I am confused as hell, but you were right.  I can’t let go that easily – and I would like it if you stuck around.  If you don’t want to, I’ll understand.  It’s like you said, you’ll be fine, and I’ll be fine… but ‘fine’ is bleh.

a v-day kiss… of sorts, DP Army, and a slide into my own march madness… boy am i a busy girl.

Dear Readers… I haven’t forgotten about you… I’m actually embarrassed that it’s almost been a month since my last post.  FAIL.  But holy wowzers have I been a busy girl.  In fact nothing has slowed down, and for that I’m thankful.  🙂

Let’s start with ‘Single Awareness Day’ or Valentine’s Day whichever you prefer (yes I know it’s nearly St. Patrick’s Day but I must recap). I participated in a performance art concept piece, Kiss Tones, by Brian Feldman.  It was a 2 hour gimmick in which I performed my own original songs, and then upon request and a small $10 fee, I also performed some “evergreens”  (standards) mainly Jazz/ Musical \Theater – esque into the mouths of observers/participants.  Now, you’re probably thinking, WTF?  It wasn’t really kissing it literally was singing into their open mouths, but only after a mouth inspection by Brian Feldman, and a 30 second Scope swishing.  This was a precaution that I was very fond of.  You can watch a clip from the performance HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9w0Ll7rfoZ4).  I’m sure will find it strange and adorably quirky.  Other than publicly sabotaging my career I was asked out on a date by one of the observers, Scott – and of course being the sweet heart I am, I obliged and we’ll simply leave it at that for now… 😉

Ok what else?… Ah yes I did yet another photo shoot with my girl and awesome photographer Rima Nassar!  We ran around Downtown Orlando during the last couple hours of daylight, and after 5 locations, and 5 outfits we called it a wrap.  I can’t wait to see them and from the few shots Rima showed me on her camera, they were lookin’ pretty, pretty good.

In other news, the new DOG POWERED ROBOT production, Dog Powered Robot and the History of the Future, is well underway.  The DPR team or ‘DP Army’ has been working on creating new bots, merch, and video teasers.  It has been one hell of a ride.  We had an entire Saturday dedicated to the creation of new DPR merch for the Thursday, March 10th DOG POWERED ROBOT Fringe Show Fundraiser at Blank Space (which is this week, woop woop!), Thomas Thorspeken even came out to capture the day in his sketch book.  The team made limited edition T-Shirts, buttons, and posters which will be available for purchase.  We also had our first ever cast read through, and hit the Fab Fringe night to promote, promote, promote.  Additionally, Josh Geoghagen (DPR script writer) and I had an interview with Jeremy Seghers, host of Out And About on WPRK 91.5 this past Friday, in which we discussed the creation of Dog Powered Robot and the upcoming Fringe Show this MAY.  You can catch the entire interview HERE (http://outandabout.podbean.com/2011/03/04/dog-powered-robot/).

Also, If you haven’t seen the promo video teasers yet, you simply must check them out.  Click on the following links to view them, I promise you will not regret it.

Other than that I’ve been working feverishly on my Sophomore release coming at you this SPRING 2011 – AWE YEA – I can’t wait! I have 4 of 5 songs finished and Chris has been working his producer magic on them.  I am literally finishing the lyrics/melody to the last song of the project, titled, Out of Control (and it’s going to be sick, sick, sick.)  I’m feeling really good about this new EP, mainly because I think I have a much better sense of what it is I want to do musically and artistically.  This year has been a tremendous year of growth for me.  I am also excited to announce that I will be performing at least 2 new songs at my next show, TUES, MARCH 15 at BackBooth.  It will be an entirely Electronic/Indie/Pop show, with a killer opening act, Jacuzzihidive (Las Vegas).  I think this show will definitely take things to the next level for me.  If you’re local come out, this coming TUES!  I promise NOT to disappoint!  Only sweet sounds and “ear-gasms”!

I’ve been super busy,  but as they say, “Work hard, play hard”  – and I managed to get in a little playtime over the past few weeks including a game of croquet at Lake Eola with my friends of the Orlando Broken Hearts Croquet Club, a birthday bash at Stardust Video & Coffee, and a night of dancing er… geeking it up at Eye Spy and Midnight Mass at BackBooth.

Well Dahlings, that’s all for now.  I’m currently in SOUTH BEACH attending WMC …. and on that note…. I’m peacing out and going for a mojito.  😉

epic shows, shoots, confetti and ‘chutes…

Man oh man.  The month of January was insane, and February hasn’t slowed down either.  I keep saying things are going to calm down soon, but it seems like every time I turn around there’s one more thing on my plate.  I’m not complaining, but I do need to get my ass in gear regarding my next EP release which I am still hoping will happen in March…. yowzers….

The following Thursday, I performed a few of my tunes outside in the freezing temps before interviewing with Peter Murphy, host of Orlando LIVE at City Arts Factory.  I still haven’t seen the footage from that but I’m sure it will be available soon (stay tuned).  If I learned anything from that experience, it would have to be, “Always be ready for anything.”  And despite not being properly dressed for the cruel temperatures, I was still able to knock out 3 songs even though they weren’t what I originally intended to play.  go me.

Then on Saturday (JAN 29), I had an amazing photo shoot with Photographer Marc Harmon, and Hair/Makeup Artists Megan Hinkle, and Kathleen Medina.  They all did an incredible job making me look like a supa star!  Of course it was all tied together with the amazing wardrobe styling of Sarah Siak – SHE is the “bomb diggity” (stolen from S. Conness).  You can check out a few of the photos on the Facebook page, but as of now this one is probably my favorite.

This past week (FEB 7)  was amazing.  I played three nights of back to back shows starting Tuesday night at Club 57 West and ending last night at the Cameo Theatre for DRIP’s A Night of Music, a two night event, featuring 4 killer bands/artists and a special DRIP performance from their new show, Riff.  The DRIP band is bad-ass and the performance art installation piece was sick.

We shared the stage with Peter Baldwin, Andy Matchett and the Minks, Telethon, The Pauses, and the DRIP Band.  Wednesday night’s show was particularly special because I had my full band with me, including newly added member, Katie Peters, who crucified it on backup vocals.  You can also catch Katie moonlighting with Circus.  The GRRRL can sing!

Yesterday afternoon, in between show nights,  Jessica Mariko, CEO and Artistic Director of DRIP, and I spent a couple of hours over at 91.5 WPRK “The Basement” talking with the lovely Sarah Conness about the show and our own respective projects .  It was a great time had by all and I had the pleasure of meeting the talented Mr. Wheeler Newman and his producer Shaun Combs – definitely cool katz.

Favorite highlights from the DRIP event were: Peter Baldwin’s sweet VOX, Tierney Tough of The Pauses, playing not one, but two instruments (I should quit now :\ …), the flying colored salt swirling around the DRIP dancers, and the EXPLODING confetti /giant PARACHUTE PARTY – courtesy of Andy Matchett and the Minks (definitely the most memorable and euphoric!) As I was shaking the small colored pieces of tissue paper confetti from my clothes last night a huge smile crept across my face.  Yeah, THAT was a good time, a good time indeedy.

experimenting is good….

Sooooo…. I thought I’d give this new “audio post” thing a go…. but I don’t want to make a habit out of it – because let’s face it, I’m just not nearly as clever on the fly as I am when I have time to process my thoughts.  But in any case go ahead, press play – and laugh at my expense.

PS: The Dog Powered Robot soundtrack is FINISHED and available NOW!
go to: http://www.dogpoweredrobot.com/music.html to get your eargasm.

And here are some pics for those of you who are visually stimulated…
